Sierra February Monthly Meeting

Wednesday, February 20, 2019
6:00 pm7:30 pm
239 N Spring St, Pensacola, Florida 32502

Plastic is forever! And, everyone is talking about it!
Join us for this timely talk about single-use plastics. We are seeing a tipping point as awareness about the ills of plastic has been raised by wildlife lovers and scientists alike. But, what's next? What can we do about plastic now and in the future? This remarkable presentation gives us the facts about plastics!

It has become increasing obvious that plastic pollution is a serious problem. Plastic has been implicated in a variety of health and environmental problems. Last month a study was released showing that plastic was found in 100% of people tested. In addition, most shorebirds, sea turtles, and marine organisms have plastic inside them. Each day tons of plastic trash enter the oceans. With Florida's long coastline of 1,350 miles, the public needs to be even more careful with our use and disposal of single-use plastics, such as grocery bags, cups, and even straws.

What can we do about the problem of plastics? We'll discuss policy prescriptions and ways we can make a difference in our daily lives. In addition to Dr Sisskin's wonderful (must-see!) presentation, Ocean Hour, Keep Pensacola Beautiful and other local clean-up groups will be there to tell us what they see on the frontlines and how we can help!
